Summary
This paper discusses the experiences an Austrian university institute made with evaluation - seen as a "self-organized form of feedback". Besides describing the procedure of this kind of evaluation the article tries to outline the basic requirements that have to be met if evaluation is to become a fruitful instrument for the development of a department and/or an institute.
