Summary
The discussion of evaluation of teaching at universities has been on the increase in the last years. The authors discuss the background of this development. Based on the evaluation of one particular course necessary considerations before starting an evaluation of a course are discussed. The problems of evaluating a course are described. The different goals of evaluation at the level of individual courses and complete subjects as a measure to assure quality are shown. Schematic descriptions summarise the different methods of evaluating individual courses and complete subjects.
