Part III: Legal framework and models for improvement

Ada Pellert (Vienna, Austria)

Evaluation by Self-organized Feedback

Experiences of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Continuing Education (IFF)

(pages 343-360)

Summary

The scientific and public discussion restricts the topic 'quality of higher education'. It focused student's satisfaction with methods and contents. The broader project 'Quality of higher education at the university of Kaiserslautern' is based on a different starting point. The university's professors, a representative group of students and the scientific assistants answered a questionnaire about some aspects of 'quality of higher education'. One result of the analysis is unexpected and surprising: Professors, assistants and students work at the same place but in different worlds. They perceive quality of higher education in a different and contrasting way. The author develops a model of communicative structures to resolve these misunderstandings and misconceptions of serious consequence. His model of quality management focuses the insight, that quality of higher education is a strategic factor in competition between universities.
