University Reform - Which Direction to Take?
Comtributions for the Search after an adequate Identity
Klaus LANDFRIED (Bonn, Germany)
Reforms in Germany
Summary
Why it was necessary to perform chan-ges
at German universities is discussed
along three questions and answers, and
their importance for the Austrian / European
situation is stressed.
The big expansion of education and
training of the 60ies and 70ies can /
could not be handled with the old university-
models. 'Ivory-tower'-mentality
is based both in pseudo-progressive
and in traditional ideological schemes
and defined individual and institutional
consciousness.
There was no or not sufficient response
to the increasing demand for more
specialised education and research.
Aspects of 'Why' and of content are
discussed and addressed based on politically
almost undisputed fields, taking
into account higher education as a
whole.
