University Reform - Which Direction to Take?
Comtributions for the Search after an adequate Identity
Martha ECKL (Vienna, Austria)
Comments on Current University Policies from the Employees' Perspective
Summary
The Austrian Ministry of Education
recently presented plans for a farreaching
reform of the university sector.
This contribution starts out from
these plans, sets them against the general
positions in the field of education
policy from the perspective of the
employees' organisations (Chambers
of Labour) and then focuses on two
central aspects of the matter - possibilities
of political participation and criteria
for access to university education.
Finally, the search for alternative solutions
as well as a different way of working
out the necessary reforms, which
should lead to a broad consensus, are
suggested.
