Teaching and Staff Development at Austrian Universities

Almir ZUNDJA and Gerit MAYER (Innsbruck, Austria)

A Survey on the Employees’ Needs for Further Education at the University of Innsbruck in the Course of the Introduction of Staff Development

The implementation of the ‘UOG’ (Law for University Organisation) faced Austrian Universities with entirely new organisation and leadership structures.Compared to e.g. English speaking countries Austrian universities did not pay much attention to the issue of further education and training before the UOG’s implementation. This new law allows the election of a Vice-chancellor for personnel, personnel and organisation development at the University of Innsbruck creating the institutional framework for a systematically planned and coordinated further education and training. The survey we are presenting in this article can be regarded as an integrative part of the general Staff Development activities at the University of Innsbruck. The results thereof provide important data for designing the conception for further education and training.
