Biology in the Medical Curriculum of the University of Zagreb
Summary
Biology represents the life sciences, sciences of life and health, which are the basis of modern medical education. However, medical curricula are normally dominated by many clinical courses oriented to pathologies of various kinds. Biology is usually restricted to the first year preclinical introduction. The revised medical curriculum of the University of Zagreb Medical School has introduced in 1995/1996 elective large integrated courses in the 12th semester, one among them addressing holistically the issues of "Mother and Child". Biology of reproduction is being offered there from the Department of Biology together with clinical and public health modules. Students have accepted the module on Biology of reproduction well, many rated it positively, though there were also several critical remarks which will help us improve it next year.
