A Program of Education in Consultation - Psychosomatics
Summary
We examined specially arranged conversations between medical students and the team of clinical ward after the students had performed a psychosomatic interview with different patients of the ward. The students act suggestively and are insisting on the psychosomatic origin of the patients complaints. They form a liaison with the nurse against the resistance of the physician. In order to let psychotherapeutic support appear logical, students focus on psychotherapeutic aspects of the disease in connection with the inability of the patient to cope with it. Physicians focus on psychological and diagnostic aspects and the ability of the patients to help themselves. The nurses partly take an intermediate position.
