Summary

Referring to the problems of higher distance education in Europe Pronk gives a review of the development of EADTU, describes its main objectives and analyzes the ESC concept, main criteria and aims, activities, and quality aspects, giving an idea of its structure, functioning and communication systems. He also points out the education and training policy of the European Community introducing the programmes of SOCRATES and LEONARDO and gives details regarding the future topics of ESCs.
