Course Evaluation by the Austrian National Union of Students

Summary

The aims and the procedure of the course evaluation done by the Austrian National Union of Students are discussed in this article. Students use course evaluation to inform their colleague students about which cousre to take and to improve the quality of teaching. In the long term course evaluation should be one of the basic prinziples of employing university staff. Therefore it is necessary to improve the quality of instruments for course evaluation. They have to comply with the criteria of objectivity, reliability and validity. At the moment we observe an increase of acceptance for these evaluations which is also due to an intensified involvement of the teaching staff during the preparatory period.
