Occupational Research as an Instrument of Curricular Criticism.
Summary
In order to be able to use occupational research as an instrument of analysis and criticism of a university curriculum, in this case the curriculum of a department of town and regional planning, a highly elaborated methodology is required. The five part procedure, which is presented here, focuses on the description of the acts and objects involved in the work process on one hand, used by the professionals outside the university, and on the other hand the learning process involved in the profession study in the given area. The procedure consists of: 1. Analysis of area under consideration (historical development and present situation), 2. Report on the job qualification (interviews of academics with relevant qualifications), 3. Investigation of the activities (exemplary analysis in a typical area of activity), 4. Research into the classes given by the lecturers (exemplary analysis of a seminar in a typical course), 5. Analysis of deficits (a comparison between the results of the investigation of the activities and the classes, which have similar themes). Part 1. and 2. provide the framework for the following major research projects.
