Summary
Communication in higher education is faced with similar problems to those in Foreign Language Learning: they are often effective only one direction. This article describes an attempt to break through traditional procedures in compiling a reader for Foreign Language Learning. Books meant to help in didactic problems often lack insight into real problems of students and teachers. The confrontation of theoretical writing with practical experience reveals the mutual fears in coming up to the expectations of each. Their roots are traced here and lead to further awareness both towards sensitive academic writing and more pragmatic empathy.
