Evaluating the Staff Development Program of the University of Vienna
Summary
The present study evaluates the staff development program of the university of Vienna established in 1994/95 by the academic senat. The program consisted of 25 seminars covering a wide range of contents, e.g., management, evaluation, didactics, and philosophy of science. We investigated the following three research questions: (1) quantitative acceptance of the program, (2) qualitative assessment of the seminars, and (3) requests for additional seminars. Participants were asked to answer open and closed questions before the seminars, after the seminars, and three months later. Results showed poor acceptance of the program. Only 106 out of about 4000 teachers of the Vienna university participated. Qualitative assessments of the seminars ranged between excellent and averaged good - immediately and after three months. In general, expectancies of the participients in the seminars had been fulfilled. Additionally conducted interviews with some of the participants demonstrated the validity of the questionnaires.
