The Development of Public Study Grants in Austria and Possible Alternatives
Summary
Since the mid 80ies several changes in the public study support have created disadvantages for the students. Especially significant were the changes in indirect support (family allowance) where the receiver age was cut down and which was bound to a proof of successful studies. Considering all these strains the article drafts an alternative concept of public study support in which the state assumes a higher responsibility than with the actual subsidiary principle.
