An Auscultation Program as a Learning Aid
Abstract
The author has developed an auscultation computer program based on a multimedia approach. It is intended as a new learning aid to train the capacity of listening through the simultaneous presentation of heart sounds, matching phono-cardiograms and animation of the human heartıs mechanical action. The program is well suited for its demonstration in lectures and in study courses. There it will help facilitate the previously troublesome communication about the heart sounds through their visualization. Furthermore, the multimedia teaching method confronts the students with visual, auditory and cognitive information at the same time which should increase the learning efficiency in self instruction, too. Thus the quality of learning could remain at a high standard even while the financial and personal resources for medical education are reduced.
