Psychiatric Interview Training Using Standardized Patients (Work in Progress)
Abstract
The students participating in a psychiatric exploration-training had the opportunity to work with standardized patients. Professionell actors learned to portray five difficult psychiatric diseases and were interviewed by two difficult groups of students. At the beginning and at the end of the course some questionnaires were handed out in order to ask for earlier experiences and to assess interviewing skills by students, SPs and observators. First results show, that students think to have better competence in history-taking with psychiatric patients after the course. There are significant differences between self-evaluation of interviewing skills of the controll-group and evaluation of the SP. There were no differences between self- evaluation of students and evaluation of students through observators. This study will be continued in the next semester.
