Scientific Further Education and Distance Studies
Experiences and Development Prospects for a EuroStudyCentre
Summary
Considering the development of EuroStudyCentres (ESC) within the European Open University Network Initiative (EOUN) of the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU) and also taking into account the development of an adequate scientific further education, it can be concluded for Switzerland, that the economy and other people interested in education will make use of further education via distance learning. Main feature of interest will be the flexibility of distance studies. But it has to be said that there is still a certain gap between expectations and the actual possibilities.
There is also a good number of advantages of EuroStudyCentres as compared with the present structures. An importent fact is that they try to correspond with regional demands. Four functions of EuroStudyCentres are proposed: Analysis of the requirements in the field of further education of the region, taking an inventory of the possibilities of European distance teaching institutions, development of adequate courses, advisory services among interested people and students.
