Staff Development at Austrian Universities - A Report on the Status Quo
Summary
The paper presents a report on the status quo of staff development activities at Austrian universities considering responsibilities of universities and university teachers laid down in the university law of 1993 (UOG 1993). First, we present various views on the situation of Austrian universities. Second, we discuss responsibilities of university teachers comparing the legal duties to their importance in university life. We compare evaluation of university work to corresponding staff development activities. Next, we focus on the motivation of university teachers on staff development. Finaly, we discuss staff development activities which can be carried out by the universities themselves based on the results of the evaluation of the staff developmental program of the university of Vienna.
