Telematic Possibilities for Distance Students
Presentation of a Project to Build up a Regional Centre of Competency
(Article in german)
Summary
This article is based on experiences gained by the EuroStudyCentre of Brig within the one-year Delta Demo project. The project aimed at gaining knowledge in the field of student support by means of modern media. Field experiments were carried out to learn about supporting students involved in international distance studies programmes. The following instruments were examined: applications coming from Delta projects, videoconferencing via ISDN and computerconferencing.
Project presentations showed that there was no directly usable hard- or software but only some expert knowledge concerning the use of some instruments. A further analysis of the project partneršs requirements led to the selection of three projects (Janus, Discourse and MTS). It was agreed to focus on video- and computerconferencing. In this context four point-to-point and one multi-point videoconference were held in the EuroStudyCentre of Brig. These events as well as all the project work done were evaluated by means of questionnaires.
