International Perspectives in Postgraduate Education and Training
Public Relationsons, Information, Counselling, and Further Education at Johannes Kepler University Linz
Summary
Soon after its foundation in 1966, Johannes Kepler Universität Linz was the first Austrian
university fo follow Anglo-American patterns in reviving the over 120-year-old tradition of
further education. After more than a decade of honorary activities in further education, the
Senate Department for Further Education was established in the middle of 1981.
Anticipating the reform of the university organization law, this senate department was
dissolved in 1993, integrated with its scope of duties and its staff into the organization
department of the university direction, and renamed "Department for Further Education".
From February 7 - 10, 1994, the new further education team organized a presentation of
the results of university research and development which found wide publicity in national
and international media. 1670 visitors attended the presentation. In this large-scale attempt
to integrate the most important science transfer functions of a university, questions of
organizational and didactic planning of similar presentation events were raised. A detailed
account of these questions is given in the short evaluation represented here.
